A grounded animal is a calm and confident animal—help them find their balance today!

Animals, just like humans, can experience energetic imbalances that affect their well-being. When an animal is ungrounded, they may feel unsafe, anxious, or disconnected from their environment. This imbalance can show up in physical symptoms, behavioral issues, and emotional distress—all signaling that their energy needs support.

In this blog, we’ll explore the signs of an ungrounded animal, the possible causes, and how you can help them regain balance and stability through energy work, mindfulness, and Reiki.

What Does It Mean for an Animal to Be Ungrounded?

Being grounded means feeling safe, stable, and energetically connected to the earth. When an animal is ungrounded, they may seem anxious, unfocused, restless, or disconnected from their surroundings.

All Animals rely on their connection to the Earth for emotional security and instinctual balance. This is often achieve with direct contact with the earth. When that connection is weak, it can lead to discomfort, fear, and even physical issues.

Signs That Your Animal May Be Ungrounded

An ungrounded animal may show physical signs, emotional cues, and behavioral patterns, including:

Physical Signs:
  • Stiffness in the hind legs, hips, or lower back

  • Weakness or instability when walking

  • Digestive issues or irregular bowel movements

  • Excessive shaking or trembling without medical cause

  • Fatigue or seeming "spaced out"

EmotionalCues & Behavioral Signs:
  • Restlessness, pacing, or inability to settle

  • Nervousness in new environments or with new people

  • Startling easily or reacting strongly to loud noises

  • Clinginess or separation anxiety

  • Avoiding certain rooms or areas in the home

  • Sudden aggression or reactivity

What Causes an Animal to Become Ungrounded?

  1. Past Trauma or Instability – Rescue animals, those who have experienced abandonment, or pets who have moved frequently may struggle with feeling safe in their space.

  2. Changes in Their Environment – A recent move, the loss of another pet, or new household dynamics can disrupt their grounding.

  3. Their Human’s Energy – Animals are highly sensitive to their guardian’s emotions. If you’re stressed, anxious, or ungrounded yourself, they may absorb that energy.

  4. Lack of Time in Nature – Being indoors too much, walking only on pavement,  or lacking access to natural elements can weaken their energetic connection to the earth. We all get cabin fever when we can't get outside -especially animals.

  5. Medical Issues – Sometimes, physical pain (such as arthritis or hip issues) can contribute to an ungrounded state.

How to Help an Ungrounded Animal

The good news is that there are many ways to support your pet’s energy and restore their sense of security and balance.

1. Reiki and Energy Healing

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing method that can clear blockages and help an animal feel safe and supported. It can be done remotely or in person, making it ideal for sensitive or anxious pets.

Reiki can:

✔️ Help animals release fear and trauma

✔️ Restore balance to their hind-bud chakras (which relate to grounding and stability)

✔️ Strengthen their energetic connection to their environment

2. Grounding Activities

Encourage natural means to get grounded by:

  • Taking walks on grass, dirt, or sand instead of pavement

  • Letting your pet dig in the dirt or lie in the sun - horses, dogs and cats love this!

  • Walking barefoot yourself while with them—your grounding can support theirs!

3. Sound Healing & Vibrational Support
  • Use a tuning fork (194.18 Hz for grounding) near their hind legs.

  • Play calming Tibetan singing bowls or drumming music to encourage a steady energy flow.

  • Play binaural beats for them between the frequencies of 4-8 Hz - best known for relaxation, meditation and creativity.

4. Crystals for Grounding

Some crystals resonate with an animal’s energy field and can promote stability. Try:

  • Red Jasper – Strengthens the root chakra and promotes confidence

  • Hematite – Grounds energy and reduces anxiety

  • Black Tourmaline – Offers protection and energetic balance

Place a crystal near their bed  - on a shelf, dresser or bookcase or on their collar (if comfortable). Do not put them in their crates or beds, or anywhere that they could ingest them.

5. Supportive Touch & Massage

If your pet enjoys physical touch, gently massage their hindquarters and lower back to encourage circulation and grounding. Use slow, circular motions while sending them calming energy starting at the head and working your way down their spine to their tail and hind legs. Use the intention of providing a peaceful, loving calm state. Notice any areas where the animal tenses up and stop, sending them love and wait for them to relax to continue.

6. Emotional Reassurance

Animals understand intention and energy. Use a calm and stead voice and speak to them softly, affirming their safety with phrases like:

"You are safe. You are loved. You belong. I'm here with you.  You are strong. You are home."

Tip: Animals respond best when words match your true feelings. If you are feeling tense, take a few deep breaths before speaking to them or give yourself a few minutes to change your vibe and fill your heart full of love for them first. Your calm, grounded presence helps them trust their surroundings and so does your love.

7. Grounding Mats for Animals

Grounding (or earthing) mats are designed to replicate the natural connection to the Earth's energy, helping to balance an animal’s energy field. These mats plug into a grounded outlet or connect to the Earth outside, allowing electrons to flow in a way that mimics being in direct contact with nature.

Benefits of Grounding Mats for Animals:

✔️ Reduces stress and anxiety lowering cortisol levels - the primary stress hormone.

✔️Regulates the nervous system - activating the parasympathetic nervous system, known as 'rest and digest', to become more calm and stable.

✔️ Helps to lower inflammation and provide pain relief (especially for older pets or those with joint issues)

✔️ Supports better rest and relaxation, improving sleep as they regulate their energy

✔️ Encourages a sense of security and calm for animals who are ungrounded, anxious or restless.

How to Use a Grounding Mat for Your Pet:
  • Place the mat in their favorite resting area (bed, crate, or floor space).

  • Let them explore it naturally—never force them onto it.

  • Use during Reiki sessions or after a stressful event to help rebalance their energy.

Many animals instinctively gravitate toward grounding mats, sensing their calming effects. If your pet spends a lot of time indoors or has difficulty grounding through natural means, a mat can be an excellent tool for restoring balance.

Final Thoughts: Helping Your Animal Find Their Grounding

Animals, just like humans, need grounding to feel secure, balanced, and emotionally well. When an animal is ungrounded, it can manifest as anxiety, restlessness, fearfulness, or even physical discomfort. These signs are their way of communicating that they need energetic stability and reassurance.

By understanding the causes—whether past trauma, environmental changes, or our own emotional energy—we can take intentional steps to help them reconnect with the earth and themselves. Providing grounding support through physical touch, nature time, grounding mats, energetic healing, and emotional reassurance creates a sense of safety and balance in their world.

When you approach grounding with awareness, patience, and love, you become an anchor of stability for your animal. And in turn, their energy teaches us the beauty of presence, connection, and the healing power of a truly grounded life.

If your animal is struggling with being ungrounded, consider offering them extra support—whether through energy healing, Reiki, or mindful grounding practices. Together, you and your animal can create a space of calm, trust, and balance, strengthening the bond you share.
