So… What Is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, calming form of energy work. It helps your system downshift out of stress and back into balance. Think of it as quantum healing at its finest.

Recently, many people have come to realize that everything is energy. The various forms of energy we hold, absorb, and express are palpable. When you don’t release these energies, they can build up and block your system physically, mentally, emotionally, or energetically. That’s why we sometimes feel stuck without knowing why.

A big piece of this is the nervous system. When your sympathetic nervous system is running the show (think fight/flight, urgency, hypervigilance), your body can feel tense, restless, heavy, or completely depleted — even if you’re “fine” on paper.

Reiki helps clear energetic congestion and restore flow. It works with your parasympathetic nervous system, which regulates feelings of rest and digest.

As a Reiki practitioner, I’m attuned to a healing frequency. This frequency is often compared to the Earth’s natural resonance, commonly referenced around 7.83 Hz, known as the Schumann resonance. I’ve worked with Reiki since 2001 when I first became attuned and began formally studying it. I’ve always had the ability to feel energy — Reiki simply gave me the framework and skill to work with it intentionally.

What Happens in a Reiki Session?

In a Reiki session, you stay fully clothed. The atmosphere is quiet and gentle. I place my hands lightly on or just above your body in specific areas. This creates a calm, steady space where your system can soften, release, and reset.

What Does It Feel Like?

The experience varies from person to person, but common sensations include:

  • Deep calm (like your nervous system finally exhaled)

  • Warmth, tingles, or gentle waves of release

  • Quieter thoughts and less mental looping

  • Feeling lighter, clearer, and more open afterward

  • A sense of being less stuck in the head, heart, and belly (our three core intuitive centers)

Some people feel a lot during the session. Others may not notice much in the moment, but they often find they sleep better, feel steadier, or have more patience afterward. The most common feedback I receive is that people feel 'lighter'.

Do You Have to Believe in It?

You don’t need to “be into energy” or know anything about chakras. However, you do need to be open to the idea that Reiki can help.

Imagine going for a massage while staying stiff as a board and expecting the practitioner to relax your muscles anyway. You don’t have to understand the process — you just have to let your system receive. Most people are surprised by what shifts when they do.

I’ve worked with many skeptical individuals who came in saying, “I don’t know what this is, I just know I feel off.” They often leave saying, “I can’t explain it, but I feel lighter.” Your body understands calm. Your nervous system understands safety. Reiki works with that.

How Reiki Helps with Winter Blues

Winter blues can manifest as low motivation, low mood, brain fog, irritability, or the feeling that everything takes more effort than it should.

Reiki supports you by helping your system shift out of that “stuck” feeling. It alleviates emotional heaviness, mental loopiness, and internal tension that can be hard to name. While it’s not a replacement for medical support (and I always encourage seeking the right help when needed), Reiki can be a powerful ally alongside everything else you’re doing. It helps your body and mind return to a steadier baseline.

How Reiki Helps with Overwhelm and Burnout

Overwhelm isn’t just about having “too much to do.” It’s your system saying, “I don’t have the capacity I used to because I am full.”

Burnout often results from running on adrenaline and responsibility for too long — until your body starts pulling the emergency brake.

Reiki supports overwhelm and burnout by:

  • Calming the stress response (that fight/flight feeling)

  • Helping your mind slow down when it won’t stop spinning

  • Creating a sense of safety in the body again

  • Supporting deeper rest (the kind that actually restores you)

  • Helping you feel more like yourself — not just functional

One of the biggest shifts I see is this: people leave feeling more “in their body” and less trapped in their head. That’s a huge deal when life feels overwhelming.

Why I Do This Work

I’m here to help you feel steadier, clearer, and more resourced in your day-to-day life. Reiki is one of the gentlest ways I know to support the whole person — physically, mentally, emotionally, and energetically — especially when life has been heavy.

My goal is always the same: help you come back to yourself.

Is Reiki a Good Fit for You Right Now?

Reiki can be especially supportive if you’re:

  • Feeling low, heavy, or “not like yourself” in winter

  • Emotionally overloaded

  • Mentally exhausted

  • Carrying stress in your body (tight chest, tense shoulders, jaw clenching, shallow breathing, digestion issues)

  • Feeling burnt out, depleted, or disconnected

  • Trying to recover from a hard season

If that sounds like you, you don’t have to wait until you completely fall apart to seek support. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is give your system a reset before it gets worse.

If you’re curious, feel free to reach out and share what you’ve been feeling lately. I’ll honestly let you know if I think Reiki would be supportive or if something else might be a better fit.

The Journey to Inner Peace

Finding inner peace is a journey. It’s about learning to manage your own energy for a more harmonious life. Reiki can be a valuable tool on this path. It invites you to explore your feelings, release what no longer serves you, and embrace a state of balance.

As you embark on this journey, remember that it’s okay to seek help. You deserve to feel light, free, and connected to yourself. Let’s take this journey together, one gentle step at a time.
